Professor Brian Harding is Attending Physician, Division of Neuropathology, Children's Hospital of Philadelphia and Professor of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine at the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia, Univeristy of Pennsylvania School of Medicine.  He was appointed paediatric neuropathologist at Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children in London, running the diagnostic service for 25 years.  A series of papers in the 1980s established for the first time a coherent clinico-pathologic basis for Alpers' disease, before the genetic cause was defined and was followed by a morphologic study of the largest cohort of Leigh's disease yet examined.

 

Dr Colin Smith is a Reader in Pathology at the University of Edinburgh and an Honorary Consultant in Neuropathology at NHS Lothian.  Colin trained in neuropathology at Glasgow under Professor David Graham and developed an interest in forensic neuropathology and a research interest in neurotrauma.
